Record audio from your microphone directly in the browser. Watch the live level meter while you speak, pause and resume as needed, then play back and download the recording or open it in the Audio Trimmer to trim it. Recording uses the browser’s MediaRecorder, and the audio stays in this tab until you save it.

Your input is processed in the current browser tab and is not sent to the application server.

How to use it

    Speak or play at a normal level and watch the meter; aim for the middle of the range, not the top.

    Pause and resume whenever you need to, then select Stop.

    Listen to the playback, then download the file or select Edit this recording to trim it.

Controls and results explained

Level meter

The meter shows the input level in real time. Constant readings at the top mean the input is too loud and may distort; readings barely above the bottom mean the recording will be quiet and noisy when turned up.

Pause and resume

Pausing stops capturing without ending the recording. When you resume, new audio is appended to the same file.

Recording format

The browser picks its best supported compressed format: usually Opus audio in WebM (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) or AAC in MP4 on some Safari versions. The download extension matches the format.

Edit this recording

Decodes the recording and opens it in the Audio Trimmer, where you can trim, add fades, and save as MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, or OGG.

Worked examples

Record a two-minute voice memo

Start with: A laptop’s built-in microphone

  1. Select Start recording and allow microphone access.
  2. Speak for two minutes, pausing once to gather your thoughts.
  3. Select Stop, listen back, and select Download recording.

The browser chooses the format. Both play in modern browsers and most media players.

Record, trim, and save a voice-over as MP3

Start with: A 45-second recorded voice-over with 2 seconds of silence at each end

  1. Stop the recording and select Edit this recording.
  2. In the trimmer, set the start to 2 and the end to 43.
  3. Choose MP3 and select Trim audio.

Removing the 2 seconds at each end leaves 45 − 4 = 41 seconds of speech.

Microphone permission

The browser asks before any microphone access. If you blocked it earlier, allow it again from the site settings next to the address bar. To use a different microphone, change the input in your browser or system sound settings.

Privacy

Audio is captured and stored in memory in this tab only. Nothing is uploaded, and the recording is discarded when you leave or refresh the page unless you download it.

Limits

A single recording stops automatically at 30 minutes or 128 MB, whichever comes first, to protect browser memory.

Practical tips for better results

  • Use headphones so audio from your speakers does not feed back into the microphone.
  • Stay about a hand’s width to a forearm’s length from the microphone for clear, even speech.
  • Make a 5-second test recording and listen back before an important take.
  • Record in a small, soft-furnished room to reduce echo.
  • Turn off fans, notifications, and other noise sources before recording.

Frequently asked questions

Is this online voice recorder free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, watermark, or time limit other than the 30-minute safety limit for a single recording.

Why can’t the recorder access my microphone?

Microphone access requires a secure (HTTPS) page and your permission. Check that the site is allowed in the browser’s site settings and that no other app is using the microphone exclusively. The Microphone Test can help diagnose the input.

How do I save my recording as MP3?

Select Edit this recording to open it in the Audio Trimmer, keep the full length or trim it, choose MP3, and select Trim audio.

Does it record system audio or other tabs?

No. It records the selected microphone input only.

What to check before using the result

  • Recordings stop at 30 minutes or 128 MB.
  • The output format depends on the browser and cannot be chosen before recording.
  • Echo cancellation, noise suppression, and automatic gain are controlled by the browser and operating system.
